The Bluff II
Looking straight out and down from The Bluff, and just prior to the road bending to the left, the colonists were on the high ground and were able to fire 'down' upon the soldiers using the steepness of The Bluff as a barrier. They could fire, and then back up to reload, without the problem of taking a bullet while they did so. The only option the British soldiers had was to return fire into The Bluff or to back up behind a short stone wall for very limited protection. To attack The Bluff was folly from the front and any attack had to come from the left side. The right side, which was also not easily approachable, leads down to the Fiske Homestead where the next unfortunate event in this running battle occurred.
